Hemcore

Even our stable cats love it!

''I am very pleased with Hemcore. I have found all your product descriptions to be true, one particular characteristic of Hemcore which is especially significant to me is that it composts much quicker than other types of bedding. I have three horses that are stabled every night and I don't have space for a large muck-heap so I have two modest sized bays. The first one is filled and left and by the time the second bay is full, the first one has composted and is ready for spreading.

My farmer neighbour remarks on how well composted it is and being an organic fertiliser it is suited to our environment here.

Our three cats that live in the barns will often snuggle into a corner of the stables to sleep when the horses are out and in desperately bad weather the cats regard the horses beds as life-saving giant litter trays! The Hemcore seems to mask any odour so the horses do not

mind”

MAKING LIFE EASIER...

“I like to keep my horses on deep, comfortable beds that are labour saving and economical to upkeep, which is just what Hemcore is. One of my ponies is an insulin resistant laminitic pony who has been stabled 24/7 and Hemcore provides a fantastic base to alleviate pressure on her feet.Maintaining the bed is easy, it’s quick to do and the waste is very much smaller than other bedding (and good for composting too!).

Hemcore is a high quality bedding which works out very economical and labour saving. Everyone comments on how lovely my horses’ beds are – clean and sweet smelling with citronella. Thank you Hemp Technology for making my life easier’”

Rapport

Dust free and absorbent, perfect for horse bedding

“’I was lucky enough to win 18 bales of Hemp Technology’s Rapport bedding from the Your Horse Live event last year and I can definitely say it was a superb win.  My horses were in over winter and I had recently bought rubber matting to save on bedding. I have always been willing to try different bedding as I still couldn’t find one that was dust free and very absorbent.

Rapport bedding does this 100% in my opinion, plus it also comes with the pleasure of being citronella treated which makes all the difference in the stable. The size of the bales are perfect on the mats meaning they last for ages and I don’t have to use many at all. All in all I think it is a perfect product for horse bedding… FINALLY!”

Provided the ideal bed to support my laminitic horses feet

“I‘ve tried all sorts of bedding for my extremely wet horse and have found Rapport to be the best for performance and value for money.

Due to laminitis my horse has been stablednight and day so a dust free, absorbent and sweet smelling bed is essential. Rapport has provided the ideal bedding for supporting his feet as he recovers. Mucking out is quick and easy which is important when you have to do it twice a day! I semi deep litter, usually only taking the wet out at the weekend but the bed always looks clean and there is no nasty odour.

Rapport is an excellent product, thank you’”

FLAXCORE

Just to say thanks for your friendly and efficient service. We are really pleased with the Flaxcore; it is very well packaged so can stand outside in all weathers. As a bedding, it is wonderful! Economical, warm, smells fresh, clean and dust free. Best of all, once laid down it does not move, so our stabled horses can walk about, roll and the bedding stays put, meaning no more scraped hocks. Unlike shavings, it is easy to brush out of tails and does not stick to rugs. It takes only minutes to muck a box out and one to three bales a week – depending on how extravagant you are – takes care of the biggest, dirtiest, most disruptive horses because it is so absorbent you only remove the smallest amount. Many of our livery clients are moving to flax in place of shavings. For horses who are turned out all day it needs minimal attention – you can get away with mucking out every other day - and one bale a week is ample to top up a box, making it even cheaper than straw, very easy to maintain and a blessing for busy working mum’s who are fitting pony care around everything else.We are obliged to use different beddings for student training but everyone agrees that Flax is their favourite!

High Praise from an International Grand Prix Dressage Rider / Trainer:

26/06/2013

“My name is Lucy Straker. I am an International Grand Prix Dressage rider and trainer. I have used your Flaxcore bedding for a while now and I absolutely love it!  I own and run a livery and training yard of 10 horses, ranging from top class dressagehorses to hackers and I am incredibly impressed with how the beds look every day! My clients are also very happy with it. I have used a lot of different types of bedding through my career, from Shavings to Wood pellets, but your bedding is far superior to them all, I am a total convert!  The beds smell fresh every day and are so absorbent that they remain dry even with the dirtiest horses; mucking out has never been so easy!  I know the horses like it as they spend more time lying down than on any other bedding I have used!

Happy horses make me happy!

P.S.: Flaxcore is brilliant! We have found an additional benefit... if you want fast growing seedlings of wheat, barley or oats for chicken, just drop some grain onto a thin layer of Flaxcore, pour some water on it and it starts growing faster than on normal soil. It's "green" in and out of the chicken barn where they always spill their water and they like eating it.

New user recommendation

05/05/13 18:39

Barney needs to be monitored when he experiences a change of environment / bedding as can suffer allergic / dust allergies that can affect his breathing which can be controlled by Ventopolin prescribed by vet. He is a horse of very nervous disposition and very rarely lays down – or that you catch him laid down. He is a very mucky and wet horse and has been tried on shavings and straw beddings with no luck – on average costs around £15-20 per week in bedding alone.

Day 1, see [attachment 1]

Positively surprised at how little it took to put a full 'deep litter' bed down in the stable. Smells brilliant and looks great, fantastic to stand on very bouncy and soft under foot. No dust at all when spreading. Will have to keep an eye on Barney for first few days due to breathing. 5 bags to put down a deep litter bed of a decent size, very easy to bed down too with minimum effort and nothing stuck to your clothes / boots.

Day 2 – 10, see [attachment 2]

Fantastic! The horse has showed absolutely no signs of distress with his breathing and has had no medication – excellent!! It also still smells lovely. Walked it around quite a lot in the first few days but as days go on it is certainly setting. Sets nicely and still looks clean, and still smells nice. Only skipping out the dirty – and its still holding fantastic. Very absorbent and so far easy to muck out with a metal shavings fork as it sets quite solid but still bouncy. Very easily managed, does not fall through your brush like shavings and is easily swept.

Day 10 - 20, see [attachment 3]

Still highly impressed – so impressed I've had to recommend it to everyone I know. One bag certainly goes a long way – have only put down an extra 2 bags since I first set the bed down. It is still relatively clean looking. It is also super absorbent. The bed is now firmly set and now very easy to muck out and sweep. Have also caught my horse laid down a number of times, so he clearly approves. Very easy to brush off horse and rug – Has found as it has set the stable stains are less occurring and it is easy to clean / brush off. Not at all dusty, and still smells nice. Very impressed by how absorbent it is.

Bed is now 15cm deep and very happy with it. Very easy to muck out. Only problem is hay getting caught up in it but picked out by hand. Defiantly need a metal shaving fork to work best as can clump together.

Day 20+

Still only using one bag a week to place over what has been mucked out. Still extremely happy. Horse has experienced a wound in girth region due to medical treatment which is left open – bedding does not stick to it and comes away easy which is a bonus. Slight discolouration but overall still looks acceptably clean – and no smells of ammonia yet which is very surprising. Still smells and looks very clean. Still very surprised at how one bag goes a long way. Very impressed – started new horse on the same bedding and same results. Much easier to muck out than shavings, and so much more absorbent! Mucked out within half the time with no mess. So easy to separate the dirty and wet.

Review Overview:

A very highly recommended bedding which is very suited to my horse who suffers from allergies and dust resulting in difficulty in breathing / closed airways. No medication needed to open air ways using this bedding which means there is little or no dust in this bedding. Fantastic! Having such a wet and mucky horse this bedding is an absolute god send! Since using Flaxcore I no longer have to lay down a new bed every day which was time and money consuming now I am able to muck out and keep it clean within minutes, it is so very easy to separate the wet and the mucky. After the first week once the bedding has set you get little walked around which means it’s not walked down the stable block such as with straw. Using on average one bag of bedding per week on top of the original deep litter I set down using 5 bags. Smells brilliant, and continues to smell brilliant. No smell or scent of ammonia, and keeps a decent clean colouring even after weeks of use. Highly absorbent and very easy to muck out. Easy to manage as does not fall through brush or stick to floor /surfaces. Very easy to clean off rugs and horse does not stick like shavings do. Hardly any stable stains which is brilliant!! Cannot recommend this bedding enough – will continue to use it for all of my horses. Altogether very happy with Flaxcore bedding, excellent and very economic. One bag goes a long way. Brilliant, a must have bedding!!

Farrier recommendation:

I am a Farrier based in Cornwall with just over 200 Donkeys on my books. One of my clients has had ongoing problems with 3 out of four of her Donkeys, with white line disease.  One of the Donkeys suffering particularly badly. She has been using Flaxcore bedding for some time. The Donkeys are out during the day and, as most of the country we have endured a hideously wet Autumn/Winter. I have noticed a marked improvement in the feet of all of the four Donkeys, this, I can only put down to the change of bedding.  I have recommended your bedding to several clients with the same problem.

Helping Reduce & Stop Seedy Toe?

'I just wanted to write to you to say how very impressed I am with your product Flaxcore. I have been using a flax bedding for quite a few years now, but the product seemingly became unavailable, which then led me to yours (Flaxcore).

I have been using this for the past few months and can honestly say that I have had a very interesting result.

I have four elderlyish Donkeys in Cornwall, who, for rather a long while now, have been suffering from the condition Seedy Toe (White Line disease) a predisposition that they can unfortunately have living in a rather wetter clime than they are meant . After a particularly wet summer and an unbelievably monstrous wet winter, I was beginning to think I would never get on top of the problem.

However myself and my farrier (who tends to their feet every 6 weeks) started to notice a massive improvement in their condition, so much so that it has now practically disappeared, with the additional relief of no foot abscesses - a first!.

I can only think of two reasons for this, firstly the seedy toe has been drowned out of their feet by the swamp like conditions (highly unlikely) or secondly, and my most favoured theory is your addition of Citronella to the bedding. I believe this essential

oil is thought of as having antibacterial and anti fungal properties. I clearly cannot state that this is in fact the reason for this very significant progress, but I can only presume by my own experiences, that this is, indeed, the reason for the vast improvement. Apart from the above potential benefits, they absolutely LOVE IT! It's warm, perfect for rolling on (without the bedding shifting too much), incredibly absorbent, and also cost effective.

With very many thanks for a marvellous product, One very happy donkey owner and 16 happy feet ”

Finally I have found a bedding I like- I have probably tried everything on the market!

'I just wanted to say thank you! Finally I have found a bedding I like- I have probably tried everything on the market! I think Flaxcore is by far the best, and good value for money too; I hate paying lots of money for bedding as you are literally just throwing your money on the muck heap. I don’t think you would ever beat Flaxcore in terms of price and product. I have used Aubiose for years, although I got on very well it, the price went sky high and I didn't like the effort that was required when you had to do a full muck out. I then tried all different shavings, wood chip, wood pellets (yuk!) … Then my local supplier said he was getting Flaxcore in stock … I must admit I saw your stand at the show in the excel London, and I said hello to the rep but said I wasn't interested in your bedding - I wish I had spoken to her now as I wouldn't of wasted my money paying over £6 a bag for wood pellets!!

I love the way the product creates a stable base that knits together and then you can take out the droppings daily and the wet every couple of days and the bed always stays fresh! I event my 2 horses, so to have a dry dust free bed is what I am after when selecting a bedding, and yours is the only I have now tried that fulfills that that also smells nice!''

Amy, Bedfordshire

It's Brilliant!

“It's so easy to use and it smells wonderful, a fresh stable all the while of citronella. It's soft and lasts a lot longer than wood shavings, plus the bales are easy to handle and to open. Overall the product is fantastic and is very easy to use. I will be in contact shortly to arrange for another delivery. Thank you, IT'S BRILLIANT”

POULTRY & BIRDS:

Its great value and I would recommend it

“I have used both Rapport and Hemcore as bedding / litter for my six hens. Both perform well, being easy to apply, not dusty and easy to collect when soiled. The small pieces mean that a soiled area can be removed without unnecessarily removing clean bedding (if you like to do a regular spruce-up in your coop) as is the case with straw. One bale of Rapport lasted for months. I'd consider it great value and recommend to other poultry keepers”

Mark, Suffolk:

Have used chopped straw and shavings, but MUCH prefer Hemcore

“...I use Hemcore under the perches and in the nesting boxes in the hen house. It is absorbent, so makes cleaning up easy and it also breaks down well in the garden compost heap. I have used both chopped straw and wood shavings, but much prefer Hemcore…”

Celia, Suffolk:

It composts beautifully - you should see the size of my rhubarb plant in the summer!!

“...Hemcore is very absorbent, and doesn't break down or create a lot of dust as other products tend to do. Dust can be lethal for chickens (I keep a flock of rare breed bantams which are expensive to purchase, so I like them to have the 'best'. They free range but spent time in their run in bad weather and Hemcore is brilliant for those times in the winter when they are confined to 'barracks'.) Because of Hemcore's qualities, I don't have to worry about a damp or smelly or soiled run as it keeps dry and fresh, and I can always add another layer of Hemcore if needs be. It doesn't 'clump up' and is so easy to just rake out and scoop or shovel up. Another really good bonus is that I can spread it around the garden beds in the winter and it composts beautifully - you should see the size of my rhubarb plant in the summer!…”
